Formed in 2004 by three friends with a passion to explore the world of chamber music, WindRose Trio has grown into an Edmonton institution. Over the years they have performed virtually all the standard works for reed trio as well as a dozen commissions. "Path of Contact", their first CD, was awarded a Western Canadian Music Award for Best Classical Recording. In August of 2015 they represented Canada at the International Double Reed Conference in Tokyo, Japan with a program of Canadian works for reed trio. They were invited to perform at the Harbin Summer Music Festival in Harbin, China in 2016. This was a particular honour as it was the first time a Canadian group played at this 60-year-old festival.
Back at home their local concert season continues to present works diverse in size, instrumentation, and style. Past performances have included collaborations with string quartet, dancer, piano, live electronics, video, flute, and brass instruments. An important part of a WindRose program is the premiere of a new work. Out of seventeen Canadian works in their repertoire, twelve were written for the trio.
Replacing Matthew Howatt on bassoon at this concert will be Edith Stacey, assistant principal bassoon with the
Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
Please note the change in location for this concert!
With the unfortunate cancellation of Garden Day at the Botanic Park this concert has been moved to
the St. Albert’s Historic River Lots + Grain Elevators.
A wonderful opportunity to take in this delightful concert at this provincially designated historic location. Some seating will be available or you may bring your own lawn chair. Stay for a while or for the whole concert and be sure to tour the grounds of the St. Albert’s Historic River Lots + Grain Elevators while you are there!

This historic area features two beautifully restored grain elevators (a 1906 Brackman Ker Elevator and a 1929 Alberta Wheat Pool Elevator), a 1920’s replica Train Station complete with a residence for a train agent, and some of St. Albert’s oldest surviving historic houses and agricultural buildings. Visitors can meet an interpreter inside the replica Train Station, tour the elevators, and discover St. Albert's early Métis and Francophone history by visiting the Historic River Lots 23 + 24. These River Lots tell the story of Métis and French-Canadian settlement in the Sturgeon River valley and include Belcourt House (circa 1900), Cunningham House (circa 1912), La Maison Chevigny (circa 1890), and the Brousseau Granary (circa 1900).
The St. Albert’s Historic River Lots + Grain Elevators are located at 4 Meadowview Drive, St. Albert.
